MEDICAL OFFICERS
General Information
The RFDS employs medical officers in two distinct service areas
-
General medical service provision. Duties are varied, interesting and challenging at all RFDS locations.

Rural and Remote Women's Health Program (R&RWHP). The R&RWHP provides female General Practitioners (GPs) to rural and remote communities with little or no access to femal GP services.
Medical officer positions within the RFDS are unique and offer doctors the opportunity to increase their professional experience and understanding of rural and remote health, Indigenous and women's health and aviation medicine. Employment with the RFDS also offers the opportunity to work as part of a mutli-disciplinary team consisting of flight nurses, allied health professionals, pilots and administrative staff.

The general skills and experience required are:
- Medical degree registerable in Australia.
- Sound knowledge of resuscitation techniques.
- Good basic grounding in obstetrics, paediatrics, general medicine, emergency and trauma, surgery and anaesthesia.
- An interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A philosophy sympathetic to the ideals of the RFDS.
- An empathy for the bush and its people.
