  Vital. Dedicated. For Australia.RFDS Central Operations began in Alice Springs in 1939 and has now grown to operate from bases in Adelaide, Port Augusta and Ayers Rock Medical Centre (Yulara). Central Operations covers South Australia, the southern part of the Northern Territory and on occasions, areas within Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales - more than 2.3 million square kilometres of land. In 2006/07, RFDS Central Operations flew approx 4.5 million kilometres and assisted more than 51,000 people. We have expanded our role significantly in recent years to incorporate a broader range of services in remote areas of Australia whilst increasingly providing critical support to the metropolitan area. Today, the RFDS is more relevant than it ever has been in servicing the Australian community. RFDS Central Operations
