Medical Officers

RFDS doctors work as part of a multi-disciplinary health team, providing primary health care to rural and remote populations.

  • Medical degree conferring eligibility for registration as a Medical Practitioner in an Australian State or Territory.

  • 5 years or more postgraduate experience

  • Sound knowledge of resuscitation techniques

  • Good basic grounding in Obstetrics, Paediatrics, General Medicine, Emergency & Trauma, Communicable Diseases and Surgery

  • A philosophy sympathetic to the ideals of the RFDS

  • Ability to empathise with a wide range of social groups

  • Excellent communication skills

  • An interest in Aboriginal Health

  • A 'feel' for the bush and its people

Nurses 

RFDS nurses work as part of a multi-disciplinary health team and are involved with outback clinic work and on-call emergency flights. 

  • Current general & midwifery certificates

  • Extensive general and obstetric experience

  • Experience in one of the critical areas, ie. emergency, intensive care or anaesthetics

  • Awareness of cross-cultural issues

  • Commitment to the ideals of the RFDS

  • Commitment to Primary Health

  • Understanding of rural & remote area health issues

  • Previous aero-medical experience preferred

Pilots 

  • Commercial Licence.

  • Instrument Rating (command, 3 renewals).

  • 2000 hours as pilot-in-command.

  • 200 hours night flying.

  • 500 hours as pilot-in-command multi-engine preferred

  • Turbo-Prop experience preferred.

  • If no turbo-prop experience, BGT Course or have passed ATPL subjects. 

Engineers 

Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (L.A.M.E.) 

  • Licensed for Airframe groups 1, 5, 6, and 10

  • Licensed for Engine group 21 – PT6A series

  • Avionics (electrical, instrument and radio) categories to suit Pilatus PC-12 systems 

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (A.M.E.) 

  • Trade certificate and working towards achieving A.M.E. licenses 

Apprentices 

  • Keen interest in working within the aircraft industry
